Barefoot Lifestyle
Honestly, I am not a true barefooter, but I began wearing zero-drop footwear when I had constant knee pain. I discovered the cushioning in traditional shoes created a pattern of walking in which I slammed my heels on the ground. This was creating my knee pain. A few months into zero-drop footwear, no more knee pain! I do go barefoot when I can, but I can’t commit to being barefoot in public spaces. Here are some brands I personally have at home.
Please note: you should also work on stretching and exercising your foot to strengthen it properly when you switch to barefoot shoes. Many of these brands have resources within their websites to share more information about this.
Xero Shoes – Easy shipping and returns to the US. I started with this brand due to cost. Wider feet may have a challenge with some of the styles. They have a “make your own” sandal kit here
Vivobarefoot – Run more narrowly and is a European brand. I bought a pair on Amazon when I needed an all wipeable shoe for working in labor/delivery
Anya’s Reviews – get insight on styles and fits, and even shop their store for shoes. I’ve gotten great information prior to committing to buying.
Juuri – Slovak Repubic brand, super kind and helpful owners! Customizable sandals with interchangeable lacing/style. I own a pair here in the United States (in case you’re a little worried about ordering.)
Lems Shoes – I love my Lems Chelsea style boots for cold/snowy/rainy Pennsylvania Weather
